RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication. It is a tool used by website owners to broadcast current information posted on their websites to their users. The primary benefit of RSS for the user is the ability to keep updated on their favorite websites without visiting each site individually.
The icon to the left is quickly becoming the standard icon for RSS. When you see this in your address bar or on a web page, you know the website you are on has an RSS feed. Click it and you will see the feed.

Beyond all the fancy techno jargon, RSS feeds will essentially work like an email. Once you subscribe to a feed you will receive a new post in your RSS application like you would an email in your inbox.
To receive an RSS feed, you can choose to have the feeds delivered to your email address or you can choose an RSS feed application, which directs all RSS feeds you have subscribed to in one place. Some examples of RSS feed applications are Google Reader, Bloglines, My Yahoo, NewsGator and Live Bookmarks. Please note: If you choose a feed application, you will need to log in to that application in order to view your feeds.
